Barry Allan Scott has a degree in fine art from Duncan of Jordanstone college of art and an MFA from the 3-year program at the University of Maryland, USA where he explored drawing, painting and sculpture. Barry was awarded the Mitchell Prize at Duncan of Jordanstone and the David Driskell Award for excellence in teaching and studio practice at Maryland. Barry has attended residencies in the States at Vermont Studio centre and also at the Atlantic centre for the arts, in Florida, working with renowned artists such as John Torreano, Arnold Mesches and Kerry James Marshall. Having spent years as an art teacher near Washington DC, in the USA, Barry also worked for a short time as a sculpture assistant to the artist Joan Danziger.
